ブルースに魅了された当時21歳の作者が持てる情熱のすべてを注ぎ込んだ、夢と現実の入り混じる絵本日記。 2年の歳月をかけて描き溜めた、ブルースへの愛と憧憬と妄想の結晶であるノート、"BLUES JOURNAL"のレプリカ。 2013-2015 フルカラー A5変形 無線綴じ冊子 64p ― 20 歳のとき、偶然目にした一本の DVD で、あるシカゴ・ブルースマンに私は魅了されてしまった。 しゃがれ声、荒いギター、破天荒なパフォーマンス。彼の名はレフティ・ディズ。 ブルースへの純粋な情熱に私は夢中になった。 その日から彼の軌跡を追う日々が始まった。彼はすでにこの世を去っていたが、ネットで探し出した知人と思われる数人にコンタクトを取った。 その一人が、レフティ行きつけのライブハウスのすぐ裏に住んでいた黒人女性・アキだった。 アキに会うため、そしてレフティのいた街に自分の身を置くため、21 歳になってすぐ私はシカゴへ飛んだ。 初めてアキと会った夜、ダウンタウンの片隅で、私たちはノートを見ながら涙を流した。言葉を超えた不思議な感情だった。 シカゴでは、このノートを通じて多くの人と出会った。 ローザス・ラウンジで面白そうにノートをめくって見ていた日本人ピアニストのアリヨ、彼の紹介で会えたブルースマン、ビリー・ブランチ。彼の家でレフティの思い出話を聞いた。ビリーの手にはこのノート。なんてホットな時間だったろう! 演奏ができない私にとって、ブルースへの情熱の表現手段はこのノートだった。 描き続ける中で、テッドという架空の黒人の少年が生まれ、叔父のウォルター、恋人のレイチェルなど、彼を取り巻く人々が次々に現れていった。彼らは、私のブルースそのものだった。 しかし、ノートであるがゆえに展示が難しく、切り抜きも多いため再現不可能とされ、10 年もの間眠ったままだった。一時は行方不明になったことさえある。 2025 年、絵で生きていこうと決めた私は、最初にこのノートを世に出そうと決意した。 こうして今、ギャラリスト慎次郎さんの力を借りてここに展示されている。 ページをめくるごとに、あの頃の熱い情熱が蘇ってくる。 Jun Ogasawara BLUES When I was 20 years old, I happened to see a DVD and was fascinated by a certain Chicago bluesman. His voice, rough guitar, and wild performance. His name was Lefty Dizz. I was hooked by his pure passion for the blues. From that day on, I began to follow in his footsteps. He had already passed away. I contacted several people I found on the Internet who I thought were his acquaintances. One of them was Aki, a black woman who lived right behind Lefty's favorite live music club. I flew to Chicago as soon as I turned 21 to meet Aki and to be in the city where Lefty lived. On the night I met Aki for the first time, in a corner of downtown, we shed tears as we looked at my notebooks. It was a strange feeling that transcended words. In Chicago, I met many people through this notebook. Ariyo, a Japanese pianist who was flipping through these notes with great interest at Rosas Lounge, and Billy Branch, a bluesman I met through his introduction. I heard Lefty's memoirs at Billy's house. In his hand was this notebook. What a hot time we had! As I could not play any instrument, this notebook was my way of expressing my passion for the blues. As I continued to draw, a fictional black boy named Ted was born, and the people surrounding him, including his uncle Walter and his girlfriend Rachel, appeared one after another. They were the blues themselves. However, the notebook was considered impossible to reproduce due to the difficulty of displaying them and the large number of clippings, so it was left unattended for 10 years. At one point, they even went missing. In 2025, when I decided to make a living by painting, I decided to be the first to publish this notebook. Now, with the help of gallerist Shinjiro, they are on display here. Each turn of the page brings back to me the passion of those days.
